One of the oldest areas in the city, Cimiez is now one of the most desirable locations in town. Founded by the Romans, it was originally built as a rival to the Greek city of Nikaia (Nice), before the two cities merged in 850 AD. Throughout the ages, the well-heeled of the society of the day resided here, which gives an indication of the spectacular features and reputation that Cimiez has.

An annual international Jazz festival takes place in the gardens near the site of the spectacular ancient Roman ruins.

In Cimiez many once-famous buildings are now used as elegant apartments and there are also Belle Époque houses with prices to reflect the popularity of this fashionable area.

With a regular bus service taking you to the centre of town in ten minutes, a car is normally required as there is a minimum half an hour walk to the beach.
